2012

Every day, a wind called Aracati enters through the coast of the state of Ceará and follows the course of  the Jaguaribe River into the inland sertão. Aracati – from the Tupi-Guarani language, meaning “strong gust” – sweeps through the towns along its route at different times of the day and is eagerly awaited by those who live there.

From April to May 2012, we set up our workshop in the city of Aquiraz and built six musical instruments played by the wind. In June and July of the same year, Barlavento followed the path of Aracati, carrying the wind-powered orchestra.

The website, Projeto Barlavento, served as a diary and was updated throughout our journey.
